Okay, I admit it. I was
drawn to Shoe Addicts Anonymous by Beth Harbison due to the clever
high heeled laden cover sheathed in peachy pink. It is a cute design
that screams chick lit. Mind you, I don’t actually wear stilettos
because my feet would complain every day and I live in Vermont;
enough said! So the book looked adorable and I thought the premise
was fantastic- four dramatically different women bonding over a
common interest, size 7 ½ designer shoes. But no, I wasn’t feeling
it, as they say. I think the story’s pacing was so off that most of
it felt like a “beginning” then the ending felt like the “middle”
then boom, it was over. The novel had some good parts but I felt
that they were mimicking the Nanny Diaries and Shopaholic series and
something Danielle Steele-esque. The one character that works as a
phone-sex operator intrigued me but only in that
slowing-down-to-see-an-accident-on-the-highway and watching 2
minutes of the Doctor Phil House way. Back to the good parts- the
dialog. I liked the way the women talked to each other and felt it
was very fun listening in on their conversations.
So for that I am
giving Shoe Addicts Anonymous 1 purse, mildly enjoyable if borrowed.
